Capitalism = Memes
Capitalism = Memes
The systems we live in and communicate with are all just made up.

Why does the symbol “1” mean “one”, why does “&” mean “and”, why is the colour blue sad but also synonymous with boys, why do we have to pay taxes, why do we need to work at all, why is money worth anything? : because we said so. Objectivity is built out of convention, which begins as intersubjectivity. All of these “facts of life” are only objective facts because at some point enough people agreed “that's what that means”. Humans are fundamentally lazy, on a neurological level, energy will always take the quickest route. Capitalism is a lighting rod made out of Memes. Humans have always used memes to survive. Clothes, language, art, all of it is conventionalized information that has been memed. This work focuses on the hauntology of information and worth and how humans have made it all up. Pulling imagery from early internet memes, circa 2009 (when the digital landscape began to overtake our physical one). Embodying Walter Benjamins Ragpicker I have foraged pieces of this simultaneously non-existent and forgotten, yet enshrined history of information and worth.
TLDR
